De flesta tidigare studier finner ett positivt samband mellan lycka och livslängd; men i den nya studien ”Happiness and Longevity: Unhappy People Die Young, Otherwise Happiness Probably Makes No Difference” påpekas att dessa antar ett linjärt samband. Gör man inte det får man ett lite annorlunda resultat:

Based on analysis of long-running panel surveys in Germany and Australia, we offer a revised assessment of the relationship between subjective well-being (happiness, life satisfaction) and longevity. … The evidence is strong that unhappy people die young. Otherwise, across the rest of the distribution, happiness appears to make no difference to longevity.

Men för en given livslängd är det förstås bättre att vara mer lycklig än mindre lycklig.
